Quick Links
If you are applying for an NWT Drivers Licence, and you are from outside of Canada or the United States, you must verify that you are legally entitled to be in Canada. As part of your identification requirements, you will be required to provide one or more of the following documents:
  • Record of Landing
  • Permanent Residency Card
  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence Document
  • Work Permit
  • Study Permit

All applications for a Drivers Licence from someone who is outside of Canada or the United States will be reviewed by staff at the Department of Transportation. They will contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada to verify the legal status of the applicant and to confirm the date that the legal status ends.

The Issuing Office will notify the applicant of the outcome of the status check.
