The Care and Nurture of Your Designated Driver
(Cue theme to "Hinterlands Who's Who")
Designated Drivers are fun-loving people who enjoy good times and helping their friends and families. It is important to know how to take care of them.
First, celebrate your Designated Driver. Feed your Designated Drivers lots of their favourite foods, and have lots of non-alcoholic beverage alternatives available.
Second, make sure your Designated Driver is treated fairly. Be reasonable in your expectations, and be willing to take your turn as a Designated Driver. (Yes, you can enjoy yourself without alcohol!).
Third, always plan ahead - when you know you're going to be drinking socially, decide in advance whether you will be using a Designated Driver or another safe means of transportation. Know ahead of time who will be that Designated Driver. It's not a decision you want to leave to the last minute.
Finally, respect your Designated Driver. Be on time, and be ready to leave when they are. Their aim is to keep you safe - show your appreciation by making the experience enjoyable for everyone.
With these simple steps, your Designated Driver will be willing to be the Life of your Party for many years to come.
