Access to reliable, safe, and affordable transportation services is important to Northwest Territories residents, communities, and businesses. The Northern way of life and economy is tied directly to the transportation network. A vital, well-developed and reliable multi-modal infrastructure system reduces the cost of living, supports inter-community and social mobility, bolsters economic diversification, ensures effective resource development, and reinforces Canadian sovereignty and security.
System needs must be evaluated and prioritized. The Department has developed a 25-year Multimodal Transportation Strategy to guide investments until the year 2040, using our overall approach to planning.
