Achohol Ignition Interlock
Impaired driving is dangerous, irresponsible and illegal. If you choose to drive while impaired, you may face criminal charges and be banned from driving. Public safety is the Department of Transportation's top priority. An ignition interlock device stops impaired driving before it begins. If a driver's blood alcohol concentration is over the preset limit, a vehicle equipped with an interlock won't start.
Across North America, ignition interlock programs have proven extremely effective, with installed devices reducing impaired driving rates by up to 90 per cent. If you have been convicted of impaired driving, you may be eligible for the NWT Alcohol Ignition Interlock Program. If approved to join the program, having an interlock installed in your vehicle can shorten your driving prohibition.
