We envision a transportation system that best meets the environmental, social and economic needs of the people of the Northwest Territories. We will achieve this vision by making environmental priorities an integral part of the decision-making process and all operations.
We foster a corporate culture that strives for environmental excellence, empowering employees to find the most environmentally appropriate approach to delivering transportation programs across the NWT. Environmental considerations are an important part of our day-to-day decision-making process.
Auditing, monitoring and reporting ensure our operations are environmentally responsible and in full compliance with issued land use permits, water licences, and government regulations and guidelines. Standardized procedures improve efficiencies and simplify environmental accountability.
Baseline data collection uses scientific and traditional knowledge (TK). These baseline data studies help us to measure the performance of environmental approaches. Our internal protocol for conducting traditional knowledge is governed by regulatory requirements and best practices, and provides us with recommendations for comprehensive and meaningful TK interviews that influence aspects of project/program planning such as design, location, timing and methodology.
